Using the Khanacademy.org Website

by jack
July 13, 2012

The Khanacademy.org website can be an incredibly helpful learning tool especially for math/science courses. The Khanacademy.org website includes short videos (typically 10 minutes long) on virtually topic on:
•Algebra                    •Chemistry
•Trigonometry           •Physics
•Calculus                   •Biology
•Statistics

It also includes practice problems that will help you develop your skills with specific topics.

Khanacademy.org works best when you make it a part of your daily study routine.

  • Go to class
  • Watch the corresponding Khadacademy videos
  • Do your homework

If you are like many students, you are furiously copying notes during class and not really comprehending what is being taught. Then you try to teach the material to yourself from your notes. This takes a lot of time.

When you use the Khanacademy before you do your homework, you are more likely to absorb what is being taught. A ten minute video can save a lot of time trying to figure out how to do a problem.

One of the advantages of the Khanacademy videos is that you can pause them, go backwards, or go forwards. You can learn at a pace that works for you.

The Khanacademy also has practice problems that you can use to evaluate your comprehension of the material. This is a good way to study for tests.

Finally, the Khanacademy allows you to designate a coach. In some classes, you can use the coach connection to validate your use of the website to gain bonus points..

Testimonials

  • I have learned what a schedule should be and what to do when balancing work and school.  This semester I set up my schedule to be as productive as possible.  However, productive does not necessarily mean busier.  Last semester my schedule ran for about 13 hours a day most days.  I shot myself in the foot, and most often I felt too drained after work and school to get homework or studying done.  Now I undertand what I should expect of myself and how to create an effective schedule.  On top of that, there will be a balance between work and school the rest of my college career.  I have learned that the best way to handle homework and assignments is to get them done between classes or during spare time at work.  This prevents me from having to deal with the lack of motivation or energy when I get home and avoid the numerous distractions that are much more appealing after the day..
