Providing Support to Students Prior to Their First Enrollment in College

Many campuses offer some form of special support in the summer for students who are at risk.  Typically these are students who will be starting college in the fall, but are getting a head start.

One strategy for using the content from University Survival is to design a one hour course much like described in the Topic: Designing an Academic Success Course for at Risk Students.  Students would take this course with 1-2 other courses.

The key to making this work is to link the content of the academic success course with the other courses students are taking.  Thus students will be able to evaluate their academic success skills by applying it to the other courses they are taking.

Since summer courses are compressed in time, students get almost immediate feedback on their performance.  This quick feedback also helps to reinforce the academic success skills. .
