Planning careers involve the development of strategies, schemes, or entities that address a current need.
Typical job titles for people who choose planning career paths include:
- community planner
- strategic planner
- facility planner
- futurist
- landscape architect
Planning careers are generally found in larger organizations, in government organizations, or in specialty businesses, although they may also work for themselves and act as consultants.
Many different majors can lead to a planning career. Most people in this career path begin their careers in other areas where they gain the experience and insight that go into planning.
People in planning careers need to be able to:

- analyze problems or situations
- create ideas, plans, and strategies
