Adding to Your LinkedIn Profile

by jennifer
January 11, 2013

There are ways to build your profile to make it more interesting to potential employers.  The specific sections of your profile that you want to build up include:

■      Experience

■      Education

■      Additional Information

Here’s how to add to your Experience profile

  1. Go to the LinkedIn website.  Click on the Profile section at the top of the web page.
  2. Scroll down until you get to the Experience section.  Click the Add Position button.
  3. Complete the information requested for each different job that you have had.
  4. Click the Save Changes button.

Here’s how to add to your Education profile.

  1. Go to the LinkedIn website.  Click on the Profile section at the top of the web page.
  2. Scroll down until you get to the Education section.  Click the Add a School link.
  3. Then select your college or type in the name under Other.
  4. Next enter the information for Activities and Societies.  You can list awards here or under additional notes.
  5. If you have attended another school repeat this process.
  6. When you are done click on the Save Changes button.

Here’s how to add other information to your profile.

■      Websites – These links will help build traffic on the websites you designate.

■      Interests – This is a good way to show who you are in addition to your experience and education.

■      Groups and Associations – These are good for building a sense of who you have in common with those who view your profile.

■      Honors and Awards – This is another place to display recognition.  In this case, the recognition tends to be more career connected.

Make sure to click on the Save Changes button.

Finally click on your Profile again.  You will see to the right of the screen a place to Change Public Profile Settings.  Click there.  You will probably want to let the wider LinkedIn network see all parts of your profile. .

Testimonials

  • The biggest improvement I have made this semester has got to be my study habits.  This semester I made it my goal to study more and work harder in school.  I have kept pretty well to my word up till now and I hope I can continue to do so.  Another improvement that I have made this semester that I'm not too proud to say is not going out during the week.  Along with studying, I also made this my goal.  My dad always told me work comes before play, it's such a simple quote, but it's the truth.  If I plan on doing well this semester, I am going to have to limit my "play" to the weekends and work hard during the week.  With both of my improvements being said, it's likely that my grades are going to improve greatly.  I need to have self-discipline in order to complete my goals until the semester is over.  Discipline is something I lack and I also hope to improve as I make good habits in regards to my studies..
