Being a Non-Drinker on Campus
College is famous for parties and bars. For some students, the amount of drinking on campus can pose a moral dilemma. If you are a student who doesn’t drink, you may feel out of place and lonely. You don’t have to give up your beliefs to fit in at college.
Here are some things you can do:
- Find a church that has an active college age group. Some of these churches are non-denominational. This is a good way to develop friends with similar values.
- Many campuses have residence halls for students who don’t drink and have like values. If your campus doesn’t have such a residence hall, you can generally find friends in your residence hall who are not into the party scene.
- Every campus will have organizations that are for students who don’t drink. Often these are groups that have a community service or public support purpose.
All too often students feel that they need to sacrifice their personal values to get along with others. This is not the case, and you can do very well as a non-drinker if you just look for those who have the same values..
