Describing Your Leadership Attributes To Others
One thing you can almost be certain of is that you will be asked to describe yourself as a leader. This is something that’s tough to do because you probably don’t have a template for what leadership attributes consist of. Here are some dimensions of leadership you might want to use:
- How forceful are you as a leader? You can be a leader that challenges others or maybe you are a quiet leader.
- How much of a visionary are you? Some leaders are dreamers. They have big ideas and plans. Other leaders are more down to earth and develop plans that are more realistic.
- Are you comfortable getting others involved? Some leaders are great at delegating tasks to others. Others are more comfortable being more directly involved in every aspect of the organization.
- What do you bring to the organization? What specific skills do you bring to the organization as a leader? Some examples include
- Organization
- Planning
- Connections
- Creativity
One additional thing you need to do in describing your leadership attributes is to develop good examples that correspond to each of the attributes. Examples mean a lot more than just words.
