Finding LinkedIn Groups to Join

by jennifer
January 11, 2013

You might also find connections through group of people with shared interests.  These could be alumni, professional organizations, civic groups, or others.

To join a group, here’s what you do:

  1. Click on the groups link on the top bar of LinkedIn.
  2. Then click on Groups You May Like.  LinkedIn will then display groups that would likely have a shared interest with you.  When you look at each of these possible groups, you will see how many in the group are in your network.
  3. Click on the group name for a group you might like to join.  You will see some of your connections who are in this group.
  4. If you want to join the group, just click on Join Group.  You will then be notified that your application is pending.  You will be notified once you are accepted into the group.
  5. You can also click on Groups Directory to find other groups.  When you find a group you may like, click on the View button.  This will then give you an idea of what the group is like.
  6. Once you join a group, you will be given periodic updates on the group via email.

By connecting to a group, you can greatly expand your possible connections. .

Testimonials

  • This semester I have made a lot of changes that have made me successful.  I tried note cards for my classes and that worked very well.  Also, I tried studying more throughout the week instead of cramming it all in one night.  That seemed to work because it gave me a chance to go through everything instead of just summarizing the information.  Another thing I did was never went back to my dorm during the day.  Instead I would go to the library and get my work done that needed to be done.  I found out that going to the library is way easier to focus instead of my dorm room, where there were many distractions.  One main thing that I did was didn't party as much.  As a first semester freshman, it seemed like the cool thing to do was go out during the week, but I learned not to do that, and instead I study more..
