Managing Multiple Assignments

by jennifer
July 14, 2015

The main aspect of handling multiple assignments is focusing on organization. The best way to handle any task is by staying organized and knowing the timeline and deadline of each assignment. This is so that you can prioritize. Each assignment should be laid out into small, manageable tasks. A project timeline should be created to ensure that the assignment will be completed on time and all tasks are done in sequence to achieve that. You can either focus on one project at a time or integrate the day so that a larger number of time is allotted to the first deadline project and a small amount of time is set aside to work on the later deadline project. Be reasonable with your deadlines. Don’t push yourself to the breaking point, but try to fit as much work in as possible.

After a solid timeline has been created, you need to figure out what you can do by yourself and where you may need help. If you reach out for help, give them an earlier deadline to get the assignment to you by and follow up with that person to remind them of the task. That way if they accidentally don’t meet your deadline then you aren’t scrambling and can give a small grace period for them to get it to you by. Make sure to give positive feedback and recognition to anyone who helps you.

Consequently, the best way to succeed in managing multiple assignments is to stay organized, know the due date, prioritize projects create a realistic timeline, delegate responsibilities when appropriate, follow up on shared responsibilities, and give recognition and thanks to anyone who helps you.

When have multiple assignments, there will come a time when one assignment is stalled. You should always have other assignments to work on. Multiple assignments often work out naturally because you won’t have down time when one assignment gets delayed.

Testimonials

  • This semester I have made a lot of changes that have made me successful.  I tried note cards for my classes and that worked very well.  Also, I tried studying more throughout the week instead of cramming it all in one night.  That seemed to work because it gave me a chance to go through everything instead of just summarizing the information.  Another thing I did was never went back to my dorm during the day.  Instead I would go to the library and get my work done that needed to be done.  I found out that going to the library is way easier to focus instead of my dorm room, where there were many distractions.  One main thing that I did was didn't party as much.  As a first semester freshman, it seemed like the cool thing to do was go out during the week, but I learned not to do that, and instead I study more..
