Moving On
Moving On
There are no guidelines on when a mentoring relationship will end. This could be due to job changes, relocations, or the needs of your advisee have changed. While there may no longer be an active mentoring relationship, there will always be some point of contact. Here are some ways to keep in touch:
- Periodically send a personal note to your advisee. These notes will recall key moments in your relationship. Generally, you will also ask for an update on how their career is going.
- Continue to send opportunities to your advisee.
- Refer others to your advisee when you think your advisee can be helpful.
- Meet up with your advisee when the opportunity presents itself.
After all of the time you have invested in your advisee, you will want to stay in touch for your own personal satisfaction.
