Participating in a Career Fair
Most campuses have some form of career fair for students. Until you have been to a career fair, you may be lost as to what to do when you go.
Before you attend the career fair, get a list of the companies that will be participating. Generally you will find majors that companies are interested in.
Next, do an internet search on the companies you are interested in talking to. Find out a few things about the company that you might bring up when you visit them at the career fair.
The career fair will consist of a number of companies. Each company will have a display with a few representatives. Walk up to the display and introduce yourself. Give the representative a copy of your resume.
The representative will look over your resume and start the conversation. From this point, the discussion will resemble the type of conversation you would have with anyone you meet for the first time.
After a few minutes of conversation, ask the person you are talking to how you should pursue a position with the organization. Once you get a response, ask if you could have the person’s business card. Thank the person for meeting with you.
Once you have finished visiting companies, prepare thank you notes for those you met. Also add the business cards to your career notebook. See the topic: Maintaining a Career Notebook..
